Welcome to Fasken Elementary School, the home of the Aviators! Fasken opened in 2015, making it one of Midland ISD's newest campuses. The state-of-the-art facility includes 40 classrooms, three playgrounds, and is built to accommodate up to 800 students. Fasken is named after Barbara Fasken, the longtime owner of Fasken Oil and Ranch, the Midland-based oil company. Fasken students are known as Aviators, because Barbara was Women's Airforce Service Pilot during World War II.
Who is Barbara Fasken?
Barbara Fasken married David Fasken Jr. in 1970 and ran the family business after his death in 1982. She was from California and married David Jr. late in life. Her background is very interesting, and in addition to taking the business she inherited to a new level, she was a WASP in World War II.” Photos of her are showcased at the Commemorative Air Force, and Barbara Towne Dickson Fasken is listed in the online archive of Women Airforce Service Pilots. She was said to be stationed at New Castle Army Air Base and Long Beach Army Air Base and planes she flew include the PT-19 and BT-13, according to the WASP digital archive maintained by Texas Woman’s University. Fasken maintained her affinity for flying and flew helicopters until a few months before her death in December 1995.
